Kristen “Christy” Vanderhoof-Forschner, BFA

Kristen “Christy” Vanderhoof-Forschner, BFA, is the volunteer Director of Digital Media at the Lyme Disease Foundation, Inc. Christy took this position when the last webmaster became seriously ill. While in Tolland High School she took multiple advanced college art classes at the University of Hartford Art School. She has her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Illustration from the renowned Maryland Institute College of Art (“MICA”) with a GPA of 3.12. While at MICA she received the prestigious Presidential Scholarship and the Fanny B. Thalheimer Foundation Scholarships. Christy has her Certificate in Digital Media from the University of Connecticut’s Master’s program.

Kristen has literally grown up with the LDF. She attended LDF conferences and assisted installing posters from the Kids Poster Contest in the Senate Rotunda. At 3 years old she was designing fundraising posters on the computer.

Right now, she is assisting the LDF to make full use of the internet in order to reach people around the world. She has established a social media presence for the LDF and started fundraising efforts. She has also designed and converted our LDF Cost- to-Society data into scientific posters for display at two international medical association conferences (Boston, Mass. and Madrid, Spain) and one for Lyme Mind in New York City. Each poster was met with praise for the research data and for ease of understanding the complex survey. A “Bridge Survey” was developed to capture data from the patients regarding pregnancy and the newborn’s development. Her poster’s have received great acclaim for their ability to display complex data in an easy to read and understand format.

Right now, Kristen is conducting a total revamp of the LDF’s ( website, placing our 27 medically accredited conferences, 2 award-winning Television programs, our CDC-approved educational material, and research information online. This is free so that the public, patients, media, and researchers across the world can access the information without a paywall.

Christy has been involved in all the LDF activities since she was a few months old. She has been to LDF conferences, LDF Lyme Awareness Month Congressional Rallies, and our yearly Poster Campaign with her helping to arrange the posters for display.

Christy is a certified scuba diver, has had training session with dolphins, is an enthusiastic international traveler, and has flown over the Rocky Mountains in a helicopter. Pictures include a visit with Dr. Willy Burgdorfer after he invited Christy and Karen to visit with him at his home in Montana. Willy was as sharp as ever and we had a lovely lunch together.

Christy’s only sibling (brother Jamie) died before her birth. Therefore, Christy truly understands how devastating Lyme and other tick-borne diseases can be to people, families, and their pets. Knowing this, she too is passionate about getting the truth out about these diseases.
