CoSponsors: LDF, UCLA School of Medicine. This was the second conference in California.

Presenters: The National Institutes of Health divisions of NIAID (infectious diseases) and NIAMS (arthritis) presented their funding plans. Dr. Scrimenti (The true discoverer of Lyme disease in the USA), Dr. Paul Lavoie, Dr. Rudolf Ackerman (neurologist at the University of Koln, Germany), Dr. Robert Lesser (neuro-ophthalmologist, Yale), and pathologist Dr. Alan MacDonald all presented on clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment. Dr. Gerald Stanek (Austria) presented on cardiac manifestations. Drs. Miller (UCLA) and Bettina Wilske (Germany) cochaired the session on Pathogenesis and Laboratory diagnosis.

Dr. Paul Duray presented on the pathology of the disease in humans.

Dr. Lovett (UCLA) chaired the session on molecular and cellular biology of Bb.

Dr. Schneider (Veterinary Research Assoc.) Chaired the session on animal models & vaccines.
